    AmeriCorps Service Leader

  • Position Overview
    The ECTC Service Leader is a full-time AmeriCorps service position combining direct early childhood service, peer leadership, and professional development. The Service Leader will serve alongside ECTC volunteers at approved early learning centers throughout the Greater New Orleans and Greater Baton Rouge regions, supporting high-quality service delivery while developing foundational skills for future early childhood coaching, mentoring, and instructional-support roles.

    The Service Leader remains an AmeriCorps volunteer and peer leader and does not supervise, evaluate, discipline, or manage other AmeriCorps volunteers.

    Service Focus

    • Direct Service: Serve alongside volunteers in early childhood classrooms, supporting developmentally appropriate language, literacy, math, and child-development activities and modeling positive teacher-child interactions.
    • Peer Leadership & Support: Visit approved service sites to share resources and best practices, model TS GOLD/CDA/CLASS-informed strategies, and provide reflective peer support.
    • Volunteer Connection: Maintain peer check-ins and share service-related resources, reminders, best practices, and ECTC information approved by program staff; elevate questions or support needs to ECTC staff.
    • Coaching Development: Receive training and individualized development from ECTC CDA Coaches through one-on-one coaching, observation/shadowing, guided practice, and professional reflection.

    Availability & Travel

    • Must be available Monday–Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., with a typical daily schedule of approximately 8.3 service hours within this availability window.
    • Daily schedules and service locations may vary based on classroom service, site visits, training, coaching, and ECTC/AmeriCorps activities.
    • Must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel regularly between approved service sites throughout the Greater New Orleans and Greater Baton Rouge regions.

    Qualifications

    • Experience in early childhood education and demonstrated interest in coaching, mentoring, leadership, or professional development.
      Strong communication, relationship-building, organization, and peer-support skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively and independently across multiple service locations.
    • CDA Credential and/or Familiarity with CDA, CLASS, or TS GOLD preferred.

  • Criminal History

  • The AmeriCorps application process requires a criminal history check to ensure that community members with whom we work are protected, particularly children, individuals with disabilities, and individuals over 60 years old.
    We will investigate for past sexual offenses and violent crimes, or crimes that would have a direct bearing on your service.
    This background check will entail our search of the National Sex Offenders Registry and an FBI criminal history check, which will require your being fingerprinted prior to enrollment.
    You will not be permitted to serve or work with children, individuals with disabilities, or individuals over 60 years of age, until the history check is complete and you are cleared. The review process is not lengthy, and normally is completed within weeks.
